Maniakalani Fim Festival Reflection.

St Pius X Catholic School was fortunate enough to be a part of the manaiakalani film festival.  I enjoyed watching every schools movies and I thought that it was very exciting.  Some movies were funny while others we went to the hoyts in Sylvia park.  The seats comfortable like a cloud.  I found every movie interesting and cool.  Lots of the movies were based on the Maori tradition and the others were based on the their class/school learning.  My favourite movie was based on a sickness that is going around called the Rheumatic fever.

St Michaels Presentation.

I had the choice to pick a saint to research and I chose St Michael the Archangel.^^^^

Reading work level 3 - On the Frog pond

I am working at level 3.  I am learning to add words to a text to make sense.

On Frog Pond
This task is about adding words to a  text so it makes sense -  This will also show comprehension and understanding of text.

Read the text and put in the correct word.
It's early morning on frog pond. As the sun rises, light sparkles on the water (1).    All sorts of  pond animals are waking up.  The (2) busy day is beginning.
At the edge of This (3) pond, a little green frog sits on a lilypad (4) in the water. He
is hidden here among The (5) floating plants. He keeps very still and very quiet(6).
His big, bulging eyes are watching. He's watching the(7) dragonflies. He's watching for
slugs and worms. He's searching(8) for flies. This little frog is hungry for flies(9).
Someone else is hungry too. A dragonfly hums above(10) above the water. She is a fierce
hunter, looking(11) for insects. She hovers near a clump of frogs(12). She can fly in
many direction, even backwards and(13) sideways. Like the frog, she has very
big eyes(14). Suddenly she spots a fly crawling up a lilypad(15). She swoops down
like an arrow and grabs the(16) fly with her powerful front legs. Gripping it
hard(17), she munches away at it with her sharp body(18) parts.
The little frog has seen all this things(19). He turns very slightly. He's ready to pounce,
off(20) he keeps very still. He hopes that the dragonfly(21) will take off towards him
when she's finished bouncing (22). He hopes she won't notice him sitting
still and (23) green among the pondweed. Soon she flies off(24).

Level 3 maths addition and subtraction

Show how you solve these number problems.

1.  Maraea is saving to buy a cat.  In 3 weeks she has saved $9, $56 and $72.
Show how to work out how much she has saved altogether.
9 + 56 + 72.  9 + 50 + 70= 129
6 + 2 = 8 .
129 + 8 = 137

2.  Tom saves his money each month to buy a dog.  In 4 months he has saved $36, $78, $203, and $123.  Show how to work out how much he has saved altogether.
36 + 78 + 203 + 123.  30 + 70 = 100
200 + 100 = 300.  100 + 200 = 300.
6 + 8 = 12.  3 + 23 = 26.  12 + 26 = 38.
38 + 300 = 338.

3.   Te Ao is saving to buy a horse.  So far she has saved $17, $160, $72, and $148.  Show how to work out how much she has saved altogether.
17 + 160 + 72 + 148
150(148 + 2 from 17) + 160 = 310
15 + 70 (72 - 2) = 85 + 2 = 87. 310 + 87 = 897

Level 4 Maths division worksheet.

DIVISION WITH A REMINDER

A toy company distributes a range of toys to shops.  The shops need to get equal numbers of toys. Sometimes there are toys left over.  This is called a remainder.
The toy company needs to know:
1.  how many toys each shop gets; and
2.  how many toys remain (if there any)

a.  Show how you could divide 298 trolleys equally between 4 shops.
298 divided into 4. Half of 298 is 149.  And half of 149 is 74.5.  But because that is not an even number we have to go with the lowest equal number which is 74. But there are still 0.5 toys left so I multiply the number by 4( because there were four shops). so there are 74 toys that each shops get and 2 leftovers.

B.   SHOW HOW YOU DIVIDE 629 TRICYCLES EQUALLY BETWEEN 6 SHOPS.
629 between 6 shops. I Divided 600 between 6 then I got 100. but I still had 29,  so I divided 29 by 6 then I got 4. so each shop gets 104 tricycles and there are only 1 left over.

C.   Show how you could divide 567 robots equally between 8 shops.
567 between 8.  560 divided into 8 = 70.  but I still got 7 to be halved into 8 which is 0.875.  But because 0.875 is an uneven number,  we leave 70 by itself so the answer is 70, but we still got 8 0.875 left so I add them all up to make 7.

Level 4 maths work. Rate and ratio

This resource is about showing how to solve problems involving rates and ratios
Show how you work these problem out.

1.  Mara has 4 books for every 3 books Chloe has.
Chloe has 12 books.
Chloe has 12 books:
Chloe 3: Mara 4
Chloe 12: Mara 16`

2.  Sam gets $15 every 5 weeks for doing work around the house.
Show how to work out how many weeks it will take Sam to save $60
5:15
15 x 4 = 60 - 5 x 4 = 20
20:60

3.  There are 6 boys for every 4 girls in a hockey team.
There are 10 girls in the team
Show how to work out how many boys are in the team.
4:6

4 + 6 = 10 - 6 + 6 = 12
